Her artistic practices are rooted in three sectors: her personal experiences as a Korean-American, her educational research for people with disability, and her expertise in digital media development. Her unique art and research have been invited to numerous international exhibitions and conferences, including those in the U.S., Germany, France, Paraguay, and Korea. Her artistic goal is to understand how visual language is used to convey various cultural and social messages and serve as an alternative tool to overcome challenges in language processing, understanding, meaning, and emotions.

Hanbok Symbol

The symbols are designed based on Korea’s traditional clothing called Hanbok, which features simple lines accented by vibrant colors and patterns and reflects the custom, ideology, and behaviors of Korean ancestors. The symbols focus on patterns that were printed or handcrafted on Hanbok worn by royals and aristocrats. Their meanings can be classified into five categories: nature, plants, animals, geometry, and scripture. This set of symbols, specifically focusing on patterns used by the royalty, is based on plants, geometry and scripture to showcase the beauty and ideology of Korea.

Educational Story Mobile App + Interactive Toys

HugMatch is an interactive toy developed for children with visual impairments aged 2 through 5, which is a critical period when the senses of hearing and touch are most stimulated for their development. HugMatch toys are made with different fabrics and can make sounds, allowing them to provide a variety of textures for the children to feel. While playing with HugMatch toys, children will learn how to socially interact, communicate their opinions and compromise and cooperate with each other. HugMatch toys can provide a better interactive environment, in which children will get a chance to create their own rules and nurture their use of imagination.
The HugMatch Earth is a personalized educational app that gives parents and children a more inspirational and educational reading experience. The app aims to capture the attention of young minds through a magical adventure to understand climate change and global warming issues. HugMatch Earth and toys can be best used at school, hospital and education facilities.

Cruel
2024
This piece originates from the idea of transforming my wedding dress—previously worn at my own ceremony—into a small figure. By reconstructing every element featured in my wedding photos, I aim to reveal a hidden truth beneath the lavishness of the celebration, prompting a re-interpretation of the excess and consumption often associated with weddings.
Further inspired by my friend and Parsons alumnus, Min Kwak, and their animal protection project, I reconfigured my design and integrated new technologies as well as bio-fabrication using natural materials to bring this work to life.
Through this process, “Cruel” delivers a powerful critique of the fur industry, which slaughters more than 100 million wild animals—such as minks, foxes, and raccoon dogs—each year under inhumane conditions. Many of these animals suffer intensely, sometimes even being skinned alive. By employing Arduino sensors and LED lights, I visualize the agitated movements of these confined creatures. The sensors capture their restless struggles, while the lights amplify the poignancy of their suffering, creating a viscerally affecting experience for viewers.
Additionally, by using bioplastics and recycled textiles, I underscore a “No Waste” principle, sharply contrasting the destructive and wasteful practices of the fur industry. Through this integration of technology, sustainable materials, and artistic expression, “Cruel” seeks to elicit a visceral response, prompting reflection on animal exploitation, environmental responsibility, and the broader implications of our consumer culture.

Dream is an innovative educational game designed for pre-K students. It utilizes Oculus Quest VR and Unity to create an immersive learning experience. This VR educational game blends storytelling with interactive technology to support pre-K sensory development, such as touch, hearing, and sight.
The game starts in a visually engaging environment with narration and sound effects to cater to students. Players explore a dreamlike world, interacting with objects through touch and sound, which fosters a multisensory experience. Activities include feeling vibrations from objects and listening to corresponding sounds, helping students develop motor skills and sensory awareness. The game uses light, sound, and vibration to cater to various sensory needs, making it accessible for all students.
